Children & Youth

Nursery (newborn to age 4)

Under the leadership of Eleanor G, who has been trained as an early childhood educator, we have a very smooth-running Nursery program. Eleanor shows great professionalism, organizational skills and caring to her young charges, ensuring enjoyable programming for them each week.

Reliable adults and teens assist with supervising and caring for the infants and young children.

Junior Church (ages 5 to 12)

When numbers have permitted, we have offered programs based on popular church curriculae. Children meet in groups of their own age. Programs have featured a complement of three or four elements based on the study of the Bible such as drama, music, story-based activities, crafts, puppets, and games. Over one session, lasting from 4 to 6 weeks, the children cycle from one station to another on a weekly basis, participating in programs tailored to their age group.

We have had dedicated teachers taking their turn at managing a program for one session and adapting that program to fit a different age group each week. The programs have been very popular and very much enjoyed by both the teachers and the children.

We are currently seeking a Junior Church Coordinator.

Teens/Youth (ages 13 to 19)

The Youth Group provides a safe place to meet for fun, to enjoy activities together, to meet new kids, and just to talk and hang out. Friends are welcome to come along too.

News about Olivet's Youth

The teens or youth of our congregation have participated in a number of outside activities together over the past few months including a food drive during Hallowe'en, a bowling outing and volleyball during the Christmas holidays.

The Sunday before Christmas, the youth presented a fabulous play based on young people's experience of the Christmas season. This amazing piece of work was possible thanks to Brenda B who, over the course of only a few weeks, found the script, recruited the youth, arranged for props, trained the actors and musicians and skilfully mounted a lively piece of theatre. We are so very grateful for her many talents and dedication. Thank you Brenda! Thank you too to those who managed the props and to the delightful actors, including Mom and Pops T!

Linda and Heidi, group leaders, organized a ski trip recently for the youth who had a fabulous time on the slopes of...

Linda and many of our youth put in hours of hard work to assist the Outreach committee stage a sandwich luncheon on Valentine's Day to raise funds for City Kidz. They played a wonderful part in the success of the event which raised $1,280. Details including colourful awnings and signs, plus aprons and chef hats for the youth were arranged by Linda. We are extremely grateful to her. Youth helping youth--it is inspiring and heart-warming to help make a difference in the life of another!
